Greg Solomon, CEO of McDonald’s South Africa, started his career as a civil engineer. He joined McDonald’s in 1996 where he was a project manager in the construction department. During this time, he was instrumental in the building of many of the first McDonald’s restaurants across South Africa.

 

Greg believes that to lead you must be followed. This is evident in the clear path that he took in developing his career at McDonald’s. Over the past 10 years, he has obtained operational experience learning the science and art of the McDonald’s business before assuming the roles of Operations Executive, Managing Director and now Chief Executive Officer. During this time Greg also lead construction, real estate, supply chain, franchising, marketing and risk disciplines.

 

Greg leads by example and manages his business by empowering his people and balancing a customer focus strategy with constantly transforming the brand and shareholder returns. His leadership has resulted in ten years of revenue, market share and profit growth. Greg’s unwavering drive has also seen him elected as a board member of McDonald’s South Africa and Chairperson of the transformation and sustainability subcommittee.

 

More recently he won the Leader of the Year Award at the Standard Bank Rising Stars Awards, for his personal commitment to youth development and his dedication to engagement, culture alignment, training and talent strategies within the McDonald’s family. He has previously been nominated for other leadership awards and named the Institute of People Management CEO of the Year in 2011.
